Unfortunately, there is a known issue with alembic exports from Visualize where the .abc file will cause 3DS Max and similar applications to crash
The Solve:
Convert the alembic files. One way to do this is with Houdini’s command line, using the alembic converter here. Once converted, you will be able to open the alembic file in 3Ds Max 2018. Please note that this conversion will increase your alembic file size.
